Our friend Zelda is getting screwed by H&M. They copied her Landscape ring, so don’t buy that shit!
Since I launched the ‘Handscape’ concept in 2006, my design has inspired various independent designers worldwide to use rings as a landscape. I’ve always taken this as a compliment. It’s the price you pay for international media coverage. But now, 5 years after the release, multinational H&M has decided to take my ‘Handscape’ concept and turn it into a Halloween nightmare. This time, I don’t feel as flattered. The retailer’s copy is not just unoriginal; they’re also badly produced.
Although I like the idea of making good design affordable, when a multinational like H&M keeps disregarding independent designers, in the end they can’t keep up. Joining forces would not only have provided H&M with a unique product, it would also have strengthened the creative industry. However, there’s also good news in this matter. I decided to create an opportunity for those who value original design but usually can’t afford it (trust me, I understand).
I now offer my Handscape rings temporary for € 39,50 instead of € 85,- (till 1 jan 2011) HERE or HERE
