Even Phil Wood is getting into fixed freestyle / 700CMX!
I found this teaser pic at BLB, where you can find the extra information as well. They look very promising! Will these be a competition for the new Profile Racing hubs?

Profile’s Social Networking Contest.
We need more followers on Twitter. We want your input into the next hot new color. So we came up with an idea for a contest that will hopefully help us to achieve both. For one lucky winner, he or she will have a set of BMX Mini Hubs OR Fixed Gear Hubs AND a Spline Drive Sprocket in a color that no one else will have. Pretty sweet deal.

Matte (flat or frosted finished) colors like Jeff K’s Frosted Purple and Chad DeGroot’s Coffee are the latest thing, so your choices are limited to the folowing 8 colors:

A. Sky Blue
B. Pine Green
C. Cerulean Blue
D. Yellow
E. Red
F. Orange
G. Green
H. Pink

First Prize: One lucky winner will receive their choice of Profile BMX Mini Hubs and Spline Drive Sprocket, or Profile Fixed Gear Hubs and Spline Drive Sprocket, in the exclusive color of their choice! That’s right, you’ll get a one of a kind exclusive* color on a set of hubs and a sprocket that no one else in the world will have.

Second Prize: 5 slightly less lucky winners will receive a Profile Racing Tshirt and sticker pack!

Here’s how to enter: Follow Profile Racing on Twitter. Tweet the following statement, inserting your choice of color and hub style, and removing the brackets.

“I hope I win the 1 of a kind [your color here] [your choice of BMX or Fixed Hubs here] @ProfileRacing. Follow and RT to enter! http://tinyurl.com/24nej47 for details”

For example, it should look like: I hope I win the 1 of a kind Sky Blue BMX Hubs @ProfileRacing. Follow and RT to enter! http://tinyurl.com/24nej47 for details

On Friday afternoon at 3 PM, we’ll randomly select the winners and contact them via Twitter. The winner will receive, in 4-6 weeks, either: a pair of Profile Racing BMX Mini-Hubs with CrMo 3/8 axles and a CrMo driver in the size of their choosing, as well as a Profile Racing Spline Drive Sprocket in the size of their choice, all anodized in the exclusive Matte Color of their choosing, OR a pair of Profile Racing Fixed Gear hubs with True 3/8 CrMo axles and a CrMo Fixed Cog, as well as a Profile Racing Spline Drive Sprocket in the size of their choice, all anodized in the exclusive Matte Color of their choosing.

Second Prize winners will receive a t-shirt in the size of their choosing, and a sticker pack.

*Void where prohibited. We don’t promise that we’ll never produce hubs in the color the winner chooses, but we’ll wait at the very least 3 months should we choose to. It’s a fun contest, don’t get mad. Have a nice day.

It’s not often that a company develops a product that completely revolutionizes the industry as well as the sport as we know it. For the past few months Specialized has been working on developing a hub that runs  a 9T Cog with 14mm axles, both of which are major game changes to Fixed Gear Freestyle.

Having 14mm axles over 3/8 gives you a setup that is virtually unbendable. Say goodbye to broken axles. These things are so strong that you don’t even need solid axles to run pegs. The hollow axle reduces weight, while maintaing strength and structural integrity.

The 9T cog lets you run that 25 tooth chainring you’ve always wanted, without making your bike a spinny mess. I’m currently running a 23T chainring with a 9T cog in rear, giving me well over 70 gear inches. The cog isn’t threaded on, and doesn’t use a lockring, instead it uses 6 mini bolts that connect the cog to the hub. The beautiful thing about running their bolt on system, is that if you take all the bolts out the cog  is free from the hub, turning it back into a freewheel.

Phil Wood “Cheese Shredder” High-Flange Hubs for Fixed Gear

While visiting the Phil Wood booth at Interbike, I came across these hubs, which the people at Phil Wood refer to as the “cheese shredder” hubs. Since, well, the hub flanges look like they could shred cheese. They have giant  high-polish flanges, and they were originally made for a customer who was putting together a hand-made bike show bicycle that was a copy of a 1940s French bike. The hubs are available in limited quantities, and they can be made with fixed/fixed or fixed/free threading. I love the way they look. (And yes, they are weighty babies.)
