I’ve should know it, buying a mountain bike was a mistake. The name itself already implies it ‘mountain bike’ and we are living in the fuccing Netherlands! We ain’t got mountains we don’t even got any hills. And to make it even worse we only have bike lanes, nicely paved flat tarmac bike lanes through the woods. So do not expect anything technical in this movie cause these old daddies are taking it slow. But hé we ride fixed so maybe that makes us look cool? Any way I must be an idiot to film this horrible excuse of what I call mountain biking.
Well this is the story about me and mister Gary Fisher. When I started as a bike messenger I knew the ‘brand’ Gary Fisher, of course everybody did. But I was not so much into mountain biking so I never bought one.
Then in 1998 I met him for the first time during the CMWC in Washington DC. And damn that was cool, one of the great names of mountain biking comes and visits ‘our’ championship and I spoke him briefly. A couple of years later in 2005, I’m at the CMWC in New York. And who is there also Gary Fisher. This time we spoke a bit longer. And damn he is a friendly guy!
Here is a photo I shot with my (crappy) phone camera of him and my good friend Vincent.

The next day all the messengers met each other in some bar downtown NY. So we where there with at least a hundred of us. And I had to take a piss. So when I went to the toilet I see Gary sitting at the bar. On my way back I try to ignore him cause I don’t want to be the ‘groupie’ kind of guy. But he recognizes me (maybe because of the dreads) and says; “I don’t remember your name but it begins with a T and ends with a D. Do you want to drink a beer from me”. I was surprised but all of you who know me, I love a beer. So we drunk a couple of beers together. And later on Vincent also joined us. We had a great conversation about bikes and all the messenger shit.
And from then on I knew I had to buy a Gary Fisher bike. Now after all those years it finally happened, I bought one. Although it’s technically a Trek (Gary Fisher collection) I still think (and speak about it) as a original Fisher bike.
But we wouldn’t be FUCCIT if we didn’t do something with it. We started riding track bikes as one of the first guys here in Holland. It was in 1998 I believe. And now you see them everywhere. We started the whole bike polo shit here in Holland and it’s taking off. We are too old for doing tricks so Vincent and I came to the conclusion that fixed gear mountain biking will be the next big thing. And of course completely brakeless.
So the first thing I did to my brand new bike was to get rid of all the unnecessary parts (read brakes) and bought a bolt-on cog so I could ride fixed.
Well that’s the story here is the bike, let me introduce to you the Trek Gary Fisher Marlin 29er fixed gear :D
And to Gary, if you read this. The bike rides GREAT!
ps. And no list of parts cause I hate those lists. I ride and it rides damn good.
This is to good not to post although Prolly already posted it. And we don’t like to repost that shit (sometimes we are even faster then he is with our post so that doesn’t count). But this one I like cause it’s all about fixed gear mountain biking.

So I bought a new bike this friday. And although I was sick this week I wanted to make a test ride with my good friend. Maybe not the best idea as the video shows (or sounds). But still it was a great ride, Vincent on his fixed gear. And myself on my new Trek Gary Fisher Marlin single speed, soon to be fixed!

My fairly brandnew Kona Paddy Wagon is for sale cause I already quit being a bikemessenger last year and now I don’t wanna be a fakenger any longer either. Please help getting me out of my depression and buy this toy from me. This could really be that right opportunity for you to do something good for humanity. I just wanna be normal again and go for a walk to the supermarket
Well like Votske said in a post before this one, Vince and I told you guys that fixed gear mountain biking is gonna be the next BIG thing. It’s done for years, mostly with brakes. It was still a niche kind of thing but that’s gonna change!

I’m planning on doing this night ride / jam in one of the following weekends. I still need a few filmers with night vision camaras and editors who want to make a small edit of this event. Since my edit skills don’t go any further than Windows Movie Maker…
And of course I need as many Fixed Gear Riders, 700cmx-ers, Thrash Bikers, BMXers, Skateboarders and Rollerskaters as possible, to reclaim the night time streets of Arnhem!
This way you can bring your girlfriend too…
