So we (except Votske) don’t like to be affiliated with commercial companies. But for this one I make an exception cause Austin plays the part of a bike messenger. And I like the guy.
You have probbably heard about it, he Travel Channel is filming a bike messenger TV series which premiers April 14th. And here is the extended trailer.
All-New Series: Triple Rush
Thursday, April 14, at 10 E/PWitness the bike messengers’ hair-raising dashes through busy Manhattan — speeding between cars and doing battle with taxicabs — all to earn a few dollars.
Well this is the story about me and mister Gary Fisher. When I started as a bike messenger I knew the ‘brand’ Gary Fisher, of course everybody did. But I was not so much into mountain biking so I never bought one.
Then in 1998 I met him for the first time during the CMWC in Washington DC. And damn that was cool, one of the great names of mountain biking comes and visits ‘our’ championship and I spoke him briefly. A couple of years later in 2005, I’m at the CMWC in New York. And who is there also Gary Fisher. This time we spoke a bit longer. And damn he is a friendly guy!
Here is a photo I shot with my (crappy) phone camera of him and my good friend Vincent.

The next day all the messengers met each other in some bar downtown NY. So we where there with at least a hundred of us. And I had to take a piss. So when I went to the toilet I see Gary sitting at the bar. On my way back I try to ignore him cause I don’t want to be the ‘groupie’ kind of guy. But he recognizes me (maybe because of the dreads) and says; “I don’t remember your name but it begins with a T and ends with a D. Do you want to drink a beer from me”. I was surprised but all of you who know me, I love a beer. So we drunk a couple of beers together. And later on Vincent also joined us. We had a great conversation about bikes and all the messenger shit.
And from then on I knew I had to buy a Gary Fisher bike. Now after all those years it finally happened, I bought one. Although it’s technically a Trek (Gary Fisher collection) I still think (and speak about it) as a original Fisher bike.
But we wouldn’t be FUCCIT if we didn’t do something with it. We started riding track bikes as one of the first guys here in Holland. It was in 1998 I believe. And now you see them everywhere. We started the whole bike polo shit here in Holland and it’s taking off. We are too old for doing tricks so Vincent and I came to the conclusion that fixed gear mountain biking will be the next big thing. And of course completely brakeless.
So the first thing I did to my brand new bike was to get rid of all the unnecessary parts (read brakes) and bought a bolt-on cog so I could ride fixed.
Well that’s the story here is the bike, let me introduce to you the Trek Gary Fisher Marlin 29er fixed gear :D
And to Gary, if you read this. The bike rides GREAT!
ps. And no list of parts cause I hate those lists. I ride and it rides damn good.
Via Monstertrack NYC!
Gotta give it to Felipe, he doesn’t, never did,and never will ,gave a fuck what anyone thinks! Ain’t nothing more intense than a nyc alleycat .Be here and witness the madness
I have to see this movie!
Shoes!
Tested by our friends of Cycle Hawk messengers in New York. And this is no commercial we sponsor ( I don’t know shit about these shoes)*. But it’s great to see Kevin, Amy and Keiran at there own home. Brings back memories when I had the change to play with there record player and found some really good reggae albums. Jur 74 (72 or 666) and Kees know what I’m talking about, so do’s Squid. And there is Carlos and the other guy (to drunk to remember his name but he was friendly). Damn I miss New York!
Great movie, the shoes probably suck *hate to be commercial* Don’t even remember the brand…..
And I hope Votske got this joke…..
*edit* (forgot the TM, sorry Vots)
All bicyclemessengers across the globe are dangerous morons
And another bike messenger movie this time about the NACCC (North American Cycle Courier Championships) that was held in San Francisco in 2007.
