It’s almost time for the WHBPC 2010!

I talked to the guys from Fixed Gear Antwerp about going to visit them in the last weekend of August (Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th).
On Saturday they have the Don’t Get Lost in the Back Streets! alleycat, and on Sunday they want to do a polo session on their new court.
Sounds like a plan to me! So who’s up for that?
Depending on how many people want to join me / us, we might get a van, or go by train. And we can try to husttle a camping, hostel or couches to crash on…
Pedal Consumption found these fresh bike polo protectors made by PINZAT. You can get them here.
The guys from Milwaukee came up with this clever idea for a bike polo fork. This is the story behind it:
The Milwaukee POLO FORK was a collaboration with New York’s Doug D and the Milwaukee Bicycle Co.
Here’s what Doug had to say about his initial idea…
“I was thinking about the convenience of having one spare wheel to replace the front or rear, especially in tournament situations. A 120mm spaced fork made specifically for polo would mean more interchangeability, less spare parts, more gearing options for us single speed and fixed riders. And it would mean that any bike with this fork would breathe polo.”

EHVFXD’s Rutger found this article about a prototype FBM polo frame + fork on The League of Bike Polo.
After about a year of begging Steve Crandall and dozens of emails and phone calls with Mike Erb, we finally got it. This first prototype goes to Nick Vaughan, hopefully I’ll have one sometime soon. Keep your eyes out for this bike at North Americans and Worlds, you are encouraged to find Nick and try it out and let us know what you think. This frame was hand made in Ithaca NY on the Sword jig with some tweaks. A higher bottom bracket for less pedal strike while turning, slacker head tube angle for minimal toe overlap, shorter chain stays, long drop-outs for gearing options, v-brake bosses, Cinelli cable guides, longer top tube, clearance for 38mm tires and shorter wheelbase. This pictured frame does not include a gusset at the down tube but future ones will. I cannot say when this will be in full on production but hopefully by fall you can order one, don’t ask me how much they will cost, I don’t know. I can tell you this is a gorgeous bike and the ride is incredibly nice. We do not have an official name for the frame yet though all of us in RVA have been referring to it as the Battle Axe. Please feel free to spread the word about this frame by reposting these photos and feel free to quote me. THIS IS A PROTOTYPE*

Tonight one of the FUCCIT teams, Grizzly & the Teddybears will go to Geneva for the EHBPC 2010. So good luck! You’ll need it! And try to enjoy yourselfs!
I love this Black Flag inspired Bike Polo tee!
I found it in a post about bike polo tees on Hardcourt Bike Polo.com
And they made a video edit of the final game of last Sunday’s tournament!
Both FUCCIT teams, Grizzly and the Teddybears and the FUCCIT Old Fuccs, did kinda well in the Dutch Worldchampionships Qualification Tournament. Grizzly and the Teddybears took 3rd place and the FUCCIT Old Fuccs took 4th place.
1st place was taken by EHVFXD 1 and 2nd place was taken by team Vaderdag (a random team made up by several players with no team that showed up at the tournament).
We, the FUCCIT Old Fuccs didn’t even think we would make it that far! Tjeerd and I had as many beer breaks as possible and we played our games the Italian way, let Le Haute score 1 or 2 goals in the beginning of the game, and play as defensive as possible and look out for the counter. Tjeerd proved to be great goal keeper, and I showed I can do more than standing still in the goal and can be a kinda ok-ish midfielder. Le Haute is still one of Holland’s best offensive players. If it’s up to me, the FUCCIT Old Fuccs will play more often in this formation…
It was great to meet the guys from Fixed Gear Antwerp too, hope to see you guys soon!
Thank you Thomas and Skitch for organizing this fun tournament!
